# How to test ad videos and find the winner

The best video is the one that proves itself in the numbers, not the one you like best. Testing means trying more than one video and spending on the one that works.

Testing ad videos means running more than one video, or more than one hook, for the same product with roughly the same budget and audience, then comparing results and moving budget to the best performer.

## Why test instead of choosing?

It's hard to predict which video will work. Sometimes the simplest video sells the most. That's why advertisers start with more than one video and let the numbers decide.

This is a main reason to use UGC video: the cost makes it practical to produce enough videos to test, instead of one expensive studio production.

## What to test

1. **The hook:** the fastest and most important thing to test. See the guide to [hooks](https://ugceer.com/en/learn/hooks/).
2. **The creator:** the same idea with different creators.
3. **Video type:** honest review vs. unboxing vs. how-to.
4. **The message:** leading with price, quality, or delivery speed.

Change one thing at a time so you know what made the difference.

## How to read the results

- **View rate in the first seconds:** tells you whether the hook stops the scroll.
- **Click-through rate (CTR):** does the video push people to the next step?
- **Cost per acquisition (CPA):** how much you paid for each purchase or sign-up. This is the number that decides.
- **Return on ad spend (ROAS):** how much came back for every riyal you spent.

Give each video enough time and budget before judging it, and don't decide based on a single day. Definitions are in the [glossary](https://ugceer.com/en/glossary/).

## When to refresh the video

Even a winning video wears out over time, because the same audience sees it again and again. If your cost per acquisition starts rising and clicks start dropping with no change in settings, it's time for a new video or a new hook. Ideally, have videos ready before you need them.

[Performance analytics](https://ugceer.com/en/features/performance/) in UGCeer helps you see which video and which hook sells, so you can order more like them.

## FAQ

How many videos do I need to test?

It depends on your budget. What matters is having more than one option and enough budget for each video to get a fair chance.

Should I test the same video on TikTok and Snapchat?

You can use the same vertical video on every platform, but results may differ from one platform to another, so read each platform's results separately.
